Economic Change Redundancy & You

So the Credit Crunch is biting, huge redundancies and down scaling in manufacturing. The car industry is borrowing heavily from the state. The crisis in consumer confidence is all around us. Big bold headlines telling us all that more big names are falling down into the financial abyss. Ultimately these headlines leave the readers with doubts about their own financial future. Will your job, will my job be safe, will any job be safe. These doubts feed into the unconscious mind and have brought about a sense of being insecure.

It is safe to say that money is a little harder to come by than a couple of years ago. For the fist time in a number of years instead of borrowing more in order to have that next must have thing, we are beginning to think about earning more!. It's a shift in the way we think that is driving more and more people to start there own research into making more money for themselves, and with it the security provided by being your own boss. With redundancy becoming prevalent people are finding themselves with a cash lump sum and with no prospects for a similar job.

Research research research, with the internet today never has so much information been readily available at your fingertips. To Google someone or something has become a common verb. I know business colleagues who 'Google' prospects for business or for employment. It's much more common than people realise. I wonder if those teens currently posting on you tube etc. will be laughing quite so much when their future prospects are in the hands of employer's Googling there exploits.

The question you need to be asking yourself is:- Are you in a growing market?

If your current employment sector or your skills are in a growing market then probably you haven't been made unemployed (due to market forces). With demand, outside of efficiency savings the employment market should remain bright. For those in a declining market, car manufacturing for instance, then no amount of union representation is going to help. If the demand is not there then redundancies will be the result.

No wonder people are looking for a way out. Research your market and determine whether you're in a growing or declining market. Once you have done your homework congratulate yourself for unblinding yourself to the obvious. If you can confidently expect your market to deliver the results you want then Fantastic. If not then start your own research, look for a growing market, look to deliver a product to satisfy that market and look for someone to help you make it happen.

If you have been made redundant or are facing the threat of possibly redundancy then look at it as a sign that the market you are in is not growing...There are many more possibilities and your next opportunity may come as a result!
